Successful projects are not built through technical expertise alone. They are built through strong governance, stakeholder alignment and disciplined implementation.

Over more than two decades, Better Globe Forestry has participated in the development, implementation and long-term management of forestry, agroforestry and landscape restoration programmes across East Africa. These projects have differed in size, purpose and complexity. Some have focused on commercial forestry, while others have involved smallholder agroforestry, ecosystem restoration, community development, carbon opportunities or integrated landscape management. Each has presented its own technical, financial, environmental and social challenges. Yet one lesson has remained consistent: Technical excellence is essential, but it is rarely sufficient on its own.
The success of a long-term project often depends on decisions made well before implementation begins. Governance structures must be clearly defined. Responsibilities must be properly allocated. Commercial expectations must be aligned, and all participating organisations must understand how decisions will be made and how progress will be measured.
Projects frequently encounter difficulties not because the original idea was weak, but because activities were undertaken in the wrong sequence. Companies may be established before governance arrangements are agreed. Capital may be committed before implementation capacity is confirmed. Technical work may begin before commercial responsibilities are clearly allocated. When these elements are addressed separately rather than as part of one coordinated process, gaps can emerge between planning and execution.
Project Development Must Be Integrated At Better Globe Forestry, we view project development as an integrated process rather than a series of isolated legal, technical, commercial and financial activities. Governance, financing, technical design, stakeholder engagement and implementation planning must develop together. Each stage should strengthen the project and create a transparent foundation for the next. This approach is particularly important in forestry and landscape restoration, where projects are developed over many years and must respond to changing environmental, social and commercial conditions.
Distinguishing Necessary Risks from Avoidable Ones Disciplined project development does not mean removing ambition or eliminating uncertainty. Every major project requires innovation, informed risk-taking and the ability to adapt. Weak governance, unclear responsibilities, inadequate preparation and insufficient stakeholder alignment are among the most expensive risks a project can face. They are also largely preventable. Addressing these issues early allows organisations to pursue ambitious projects with greater confidence, resilience and accountability. It also creates stronger conditions for implementation teams, partners, investors and communities to work towards shared and measurable outcome.
Turning Vision into Lasting Results Every successful project begins with a shared vision. But vision alone does not establish governance, mobilise resources, align stakeholders or deliver results on the ground. It is disciplined project development that connects ambition with implementation. At Better Globe Forestry, our objective is clear: To transform ambitious visions into successful implementation through disciplined project development, informed decision-making and long-term accountability
